Apex Legends: Emergence - Map Update

For this map update we wanted to take the story of World's Edge and crank it to 11. Fire and Ice was the original theme of the map and we played with that idea in order to justify our change to the map. The Harvester had made the map even more unstable and caused larger fissures to occur. This swallowed up old POIs (Points of Interest) and made way for new POIs built around the idea on how to contain the damage Hammond was causing.

First up was the Lava Siphon whose sole purpose was to scoop out the lava from the sinkhole that had swallowed up Sorting Factory and engulfed the surrounding area. That lava is then released through the smoke stacks which in turn isn't doing much to help the rise in temperature across the map.

The Climatizer was a Hammond solution to combat that. Large towers were constructed to seed the clouds and force snowfall in effort to combat the high temperatures. This premise let us expand the appearance of snow across the map and get that contrast of lava and snow that we hadn't seen yet. The skybox was also modified, courtesy of Tu Bui, to reflect those chemicals in the clouds while opting for a brighter time of day.

On top of all this, Trainyard was destroyed by the seismic activity and in its place we created Landslide. We brought some snow capped cliffs to the area while dressing it with fallen rocks, dirt and shifted train cars.

Knowing that Bloodhound would be upset by all this and that there was a story event planned for later in the season, we added set dressing to the Harvester to tell a story of rebellion. The beam was now off and ravens now circle the POI. Lots of paint and banners were added to indicate the protest as well.
